Legal directors and compliance officers from large multinational corporations active in Turkey attended the recent panel entitled, "Climate and Compliance: The State of Anti-Corruption Efforts in Turkey", hosted by the American Bar Association in collaboration with ELIG Gürkaynak Attorneys-at-Law on January 16, 2014. Panel members included Judge Hatice Seval Arslan (Turkish Ministry of Justice's General Directorate of International Law and Foreign Relations), Mr. Tayfun Zaman (Secretary General of the Turkish Ethics and Reputation Society (TEID)) and Ms. Selin Evrem (Chief of Legal & Compliance of Henkel Turkey). The panel members discussed the current anti-corruption laws, legislative initiatives, and prosecutions and investigations in Turkey that address issues relating to both Turkish companies in foreign jurisdictions and foreign companies in Turkey. The panelists elucidated the Turkish anti-corruption regime, touched upon the level of cooperation with enforcement agencies in other countries, shared their experiences and discussed the recent developments. The panel was moderated by Gönenç Gürkaynak, Esq., the managing partner of ELIG Gürkaynak Attorneys-at-Law.
